It seems that this Coronavirus has our world in panic, fear and great change in our normal daily activities. A large part of our population is under a stay at home order to control the spread; this is putting great strain on our economy, our livelihood and our sanity. But what if this situation is actually one of the best events to happen to many of us?! Most family activities are scattered across the need to pursue money, jobs, career, and education. When we are not busy with activities linked to survival, we tend to spend the remaining time staring at the television or going out and excessively socializing. The bottom line is that most of us do not focus on wholesome family activities because of the stress for survival in our modern times. It seems that family members are always busy with something and it seems difficult to find time during our busy week to spend time together as a family. Additionally, we rarely find the time we need to work our own mental health and wellbeing. Many of the people I work with state that they simply do not have the time to properly take care of themselves. When do we ever stop and just relax to enjoy the people that are in our lives?
We are also damaging our planet with all the technology, production and waste that we generate in our daily lives. I am not familiar with specific statistics, but we certainly must be producing a large amount of carbon emissions from all the fossil fuels that we are burning in our transportation industry. Our factories and manufacturing planets are dumping massive amounts of toxins into the atmosphere and our waters, and our garbage ends up in the sea destroying our sea life. Our production of oil has resulted in oil spills and excessive earthquakes due to fracking. The demand for food and natural resources has resulted in genetically manipulated crops that can grow quickly and have a longer shelf life. Many of us feel very separated from these issues, as they do not seem to directly affect us; however, everyone on this planet shares in the problem, both in creating it and suffering from it. It is very easy to point fingers at others who seem to be causing the problem, but all of has a share in this issue, because we all use and consume things that are a source of the problem. Mother Earth is beginning to groan under the pressure, she is not happy and I believe she is fighting back.
Perhaps this Coronavirus is actually an event that will allow a reset of Mother Earth, and a reset of our family values. There have been reports that pollution has decreased drastically and waterways that were dirty are now crystal clear; families are staying at home and are actually spending time together. I know that this Virus Epidemic seems it many ways to be a manipulation tool, but what if this a plan on a much higher level. Maybe our world leaders are truly trying to change our planet and return us back to the families that we should be? Or perhaps this is a divine intervention designed to reset everything on this planet and force us to work on our ourselves again? I don’t know about you, but now I have a lot more time to meditate, pray, journal, read, write articles and spend time with my wife and child. I am finding this time a lot more fruitful than I imagined it would be and I am really not excited about returning to work again. Don’t get me wrong, I will always find a way to support my family, however, this time has help me realign my priorities and work on myself more. When was the last time you spent this much time with your family? When was the last time you took this much time off of work? When was the last time you read all those books you said you never had time for? When is the last time that you communicated with your family members that are distant to you? When is the last time you actually did a reset?
My belief is that this difficult time in our world, is actually a perfect time to rethink our lives, reset our priorities, work on ourselves, work on our family connections, and come out a different and greatly improved human being. In our world of great technology, we have become greatly separated from our basic human needs and connections to what is truly important. Let us all band together and take advantage of this down time and put our efforts back into what means to be a human being.
